Potterybarn Furniture

I purchased Pottery Barn outdoor furniture two years ago. I do not live near the coast and I covered and stored the furniture as recommended during inclement weather. The fabric has faded so significantly that the color is not recognizable. The brass screws are rusting and working out of the wood. The "real wood" is chipping and breaking apart. One umbrella I have is not functional. It is the most beautiful, most expensive but cheapest quality furniture that I have ever purchased. So, if you are looking for quality for your money, I would look elsewhere. You will pay big bucks for poor quality.

*** couch after too few years!

Purchased Pearce Sectional, after less than a year seat cushions and back pillows lost oomph. Store associate told me to fluff. Little over a year, got worse, spoke to company, told out of warranty (a few months only, never advised by store associate to contact...

The cushions had a lifetime warranty? wow, who told you that?

PLEASE, pursue the issue with PB. I started after 6 months at store; they never suggested I call customer service (see *** COUCH post). I'm back to say that they DID do right and are delivering our new sofa next week!! I'm thrilled knowing that I won't have to be sitting on this one for another day!!

I have to give credit where credit is due; it takes some effort on your part, but be persistent. Don't stop at just a phone call.

After 4 years, the furniture medic stated the cushions were mis-shaped, the springs were loose. I believe they have been that way all along, but the wear on the cushions just brought our attention to the sagging issue later rather than sooner.

Pottery Barn leather chairs finish peels off

The leather chairs Pottery Barn now has on their home furniture page of their website have a spray on finish that peels off. The rich leather they describe is a joke. The seat bottom finish peels away like some much sun burned skin. I would not recommend this...

I think you might be confusing Pottery Barn with product you purchased at a discount furniture store. Nothing at PB has spray on finish. PB furniture is overpriced, but is quality stuff from top line manufacturers.

Fraud

My husband and I purchased furniture from Pottery Barn February 2010. We were told by two sales people that there was a promotion for zero percent interest financing. There were also signs all over the store advertising this sales promotion as well. This month we received a bill from WFFB (the credit card company that handles Pottery Barn's financing) and it showed that we were being charged 19% interest. My husband and I have two credit accounts open with other furniture stores where we could have purchased furniture at zero percent interest financing. We called WFFB and were told that our account did not qualify for the promotion since we had purchased the furniture after the promotion had ended. We went into the store and spoke to the manager and were again told that we would not be able to have zero percent financing because the promotion had ended when we bought the furniture. I explained to the manager that we had only bought the furniture from Pottery Barn due to the promotion and that we had been told by two different sales people at the time that the promotion was still active. The manager told us that we would not be able to have the zero percent interest financing. I have asked that we be allowed to return the furniture. The manager has refused since it has been more than 30 days. Part of the sales agreement was that we would purchase the furniture under the terms of the promotion. Since Pottery Barn has not abided by the terms of the agreement, the sale is invalid and we should be able to return the furniture.

Pottery Barn Mercer Sconce

We had the Mercer Triple Sconce in our bathroom for about two years when one day the rings that hold the glass up stopped working causing two of the three glass sconces to fall. We have tried again and again to try to fix it, but the rings are stripped and simply will...

Same thing happened to me. They don't even carry the replacement rings, which I would be more than happy to purchase.

All they could do was refer me to a hardware store - and I've already been to several with no luck - or advise that I would have to buy another one. The customer service rep was very nice and apologetic, but there's no chance I'm buying a whole new fixture ($200) for something that should cost less than $2 to fix...

Cheap furniture company won't replace

I purchased outdoor furniture from pottery barn and it was expensive. I purchased a sectional couch, pillows and two umbrellas. Within weeks an unbrella snapped in 1/2 and they did replace that, however, by the end of summer so did the other. The furninture is cracked as well. I stored all of the furniture and remaining umbrella in storage for winter and the only good umbrella is warped and won't stand up straight. Pottery Barn claims that all of this is "very unusual" for their furniture, they are "surprised" by what has happened, but won't replace anything.

Unless there were other circumstances that you aren't stating, do NOT give up! PB is replacing a $4K sofa after just 4 years due to manufacturer defect, poor wear and tear.

I was PISSED off but have since eaten my words. As I have said- you can't stop at one phone call. You have to be persistent!

They may ask for work on your part, but you can't ignore what they are willing to do- just do it! good luck

thanks for the comments, I had the same concern and your comments take the doubt out of my mind. Unfortunately unlike Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn does not give the buyer choice to comment. Unlike PB, CB has a comfort section and tells you about the Seat Softness, Depth and feel of the Sofa.

Pottery barn could care less

I ordered a desk and matching chair, the chair arrived followed by a delayed by 2 months notice on the desk - then after 2 months an email arrived to say desk no longer available, what the *** is the point of the chair without the desk and why didn't pottery barn know there was no desk when I ordered the chair and desk together - dishonest comes to mind!! Not my first experience of ordering an item only to be told weeks, months later that the item would never be delivered, *** me to order again from pottery barn - finally learned my lesson.

i totally agree. i had the same thing happen to me.

i purchased the seagrass collection: bar stools, benches, chairs, accent tables, footstools and couch along with a dining room table, chairs, buffet, end tables and a coffee table plus rugs, curtains, pillows, etc. also our bed, nightstands, daughters bed, dresser, nightstands. they finally got around to delivering everything except the couch and then they told me that it was no longer available. this was a good 2 months after i already had the other stuff in my house.

i had picked out all my colors in the dining room/kitchen/living room based on the light seagrass couch and now they don't have it after i have the entire house furnished? they tried to sell me another one that was $1500 more with no discount or anything. I ended up making them switch everything out for the dark colored seagrass and bought a couch elsewhere. i've had issues with pbk too with my daughter's furniture.

they had to deliver 3 nightstands because they were all damaged. one had a giant hole in it like someone punched it. why would you even ship it out like that? i will NEVER buy from pb or pbk again.

i've learned my lesson. their stuff may look nice in the catalog but it's complete *** quality wise.

Poor Quality

I was registered at Pottery Barn for my wedding. I received a set of Salsulito plates, bowls, and coffee mugs as a gift. After about one month I noticed chipping around the sides of the bowls and plates. I have to say I was surpirsed. We were fairly gentle with them. It wasn't the huge gouges you see when dropping or clashing things together. It was numerous chips out of the paint. I went to the pottery barn store twice to exchange the dishes that had chipped for new ones. However, I noticed still more chipping. Finally I decided that the quality wasn't what I was looking for. Especially considering I had the plates for three months only. They did let me return the dishes for a totally new set in a different style. BUT, not without first hearing from the manager that "Oh, that's what they do honey.... they're pottery, they chip. I have some just like it, and they chip all the time." I wanted to say, "Well, it sounds like you should return yours too!!"

Yup, PB classic drink dispenser. dripping spigot leaked water all over the kitchen first time it was used.

Learned my lesson. They probably pay 10x to market their products that are worthless.

Poor quality slip covers on down sofas. Two zippers have broken, and replacement cost $114.00 each.

Down feathers coming through the fabric. Do not buy, poor quality sofas at $2000.00 retail.

#125269

Yup! Same thing happened with our plates.

We are also stuck with a cheap Value City looking bedroom set too. The set is called Sumatra and looks great on paper, not in real life.

NEVER,

NEVER, NEVER buy furniture from PB. Nothing but cheap stuff!

Charged $68 to exchange a damaged nightstand

First of all, my husband and I spent over $4000 on a bedroom set from PB. To waive the delivery charges for the nightstands we decided we would purchase them directly from the store. When we got the nightstands home and unwrapped, one of them was badly damaged. PB asked no questions when returning it, but charged us an additional $68 to order a new one as they had no more in stock. This is ridiculous - The customer should not be charged additional because a store does not have an item in stock. Unfortunatly we had no other option than to pay the additional money in order to complete our bedroom set. I love PB furniture, but unfortunalty will never purchase anything from them again. I am writing into their main office to let them know of this issue. They deserve the right to know the reason they are losing a valid customer.

Pottery Barn Quality

I have a pottery barn Harvest dining table that is less than two years old. The finish has started to come up over the entire length of the table. We only use the table for dinner, and clean it with mild soap and water - no harsh chemicals. It is obvious that there is a defect in the finish. You can literally wipe it away with water and a paper towel. I contact customer service and of course they said it is not their problem. This is not the first time I have had quality issues with them, but it is the last. The chairs I bought from them that match the table - which are supposed to be solid wood - creak every time you sit in them (my wife and I are fit and trim). I am done with Pottery Barn for good now. I feel like I have been taken.

Hi Vicvega1972, we also have the Harvest dining table and experience some areas starting to chip off. Could you contact me via email so we can exchange pictures of how the chip looks like. I was wondering if it's a problem of the product or how we care for it.

Pottery Barn = Bad quality, bad service

I love the Pottery Barn + Pottery Barn Kids catalog, and am currently remodeling my entire house. I purchased the Bedford Desk set initially, with the intention of creating a U of furniture around my entire office if I was happy with the first piece. I can officially say that I will NOT be purchasing any more of this furniture. The laminate peeled off of the desktop within a few months and after attempting to repair it, it finally had to be nailed down. For the price of this furniture, this issue should NOT happen. Also, I just finished my daughter's room and attempted to go to Pottery Barn kids, because she wanted a specific quilt. I live quite far away, and checked for the closest store listed on their website. We drove an hour to get to the store only to find it closed down, permanently. The windows were papered and the outline of the letters in dusk above the door. There was no mention on the site that the store was closing or closed. I called to ask about it, and the customer service rep didn't even know it was closed, as it was still listed on her end as open. She told me that next time I should call to ensure the store would be open. First of all, that should not be a customer's responsibility. They should get it right on the website. Secondly, how does that help, if even she didn't know it was closed. I wasted half a tank of gas and am now very irritated at having to break a promise to my daughter. Pottery Barn may have finally lost my business.

I'm very disappointed about pottery barn. They've changed and the quality are bad.

I bought two rolling travel bags for my two kids and used them three times and the handle fall off.

pottery barn price, IKEA quality. Not good.

#130683

Fat bastards on the couch! And your table is not veneer *** off. Limited knowledge shows why you complain

#116271

I purchased a sofa from Pottery Barn a little over two years ago. I was told in the store by the sales associates--over numerous trips to the store to see the sofa and consider the purchase--of the solid construction and high quality of the product. I bought the slip-covered sofa, which after tax, shipping and shipping surcharge cost me over $2,300 bucks. Flash forward two years later. The cushions are flat and worn in the center, the slipcover is coming apart at the seems, and the right arm is loose from the frame. I have taken immaculate care of this piece of furniture as well--I've only had the slipcovers laundered once (and it was done by a professional) No one has sat on the arms, and the sofa has stayed in the same room, same location for two years. Only myself and my wife sit on it.

A sofa should last longer than two years. We learned our lesson that Pottery Barn furniture is very low quality. $2,300 bucks was overpriced to begin with but we assumed we were paying for quality and great customer service from a company that stands by its product. I have called PB customer service and they are not willing to replace the sofa since it is past the 60 day return policy. Instead of standing by their product, they tried to sell me another set of cheaply made, low quality, seat and back cushions as a replacement for the original that wore out after about 18 months of light use.

Pottery Barn has lost my business for good, and I am not surprised to see they are beginning to close stores.

#113246

I agree. We bought a table from pottery barn that we told was solid wood by the sales girl.

When we went to fix our first scratch a few months after purchase we found out the table was veneer. When we called the store where we purchased the table we were told it was our fault for not knowing a 2000 dollar table couldn't possibly be solid (seems pretty pricy for veneer).

Totally unhelpful didn't do anything they said they would and didn't take the table back. Never EVER shopping there again.

Pottery Barn employees steal purchased items

The day before christmas I had an item stolen by a pottery barn employee and they took more than 4 days to refund my money after a lot of hard work on my part. I left my items behind the cash and continued shopping...when I came back to pick my items (2) up there was only one in the bag. The store and the employees refused to admit they had done anything wrong. I will never shop at pottery barn ever again....I'm appalled at the way my situation was handled and will honestly never ever shop there again. *** poor customer service...and dishonest employees....all this happened at the glades mall in Florida dont go there there is a perfectly good crate and barrel across the hallway to satisfy all your needs.

I resent the stereotyping..I am a Pb employee who has kindly offered, as a courtesy, to hold large bags for the convenience and comfort of a browsing customer, and I have never even thought of stealing from those bags. Seems like the Pb furniture isn't the only thing slightly distressed...

#150647

It's not the customers fault! No one should steal from anyone!

A customer should be able to put their items behind the counter and not have them stolen. My husband is a detective and unfortunately employees steal ALL THE TIME!

More money and items are stolen from employees than customers. :eek

#116085

to conclusions-good jobs are hard to find. This company doesn't hire losers- would someone risk their job to steel out of your bag?

#108418

It's your fault...they are not a valet service for your bags!

#107648

You people are CRAZY. YOU chose to leave your bags from ANOTHER store there.

Carry them around yourself! Don't be sooooooooo darn lazy! I highly doubt an associate STOLE the stuff from you.

I bet another customer grabbed it. Next time, be responsible for your own ***.
