We just received the one and only hand-knotted rug Pottery Barn sells, and advertised as New Zealand wool. However, the labels on the back of the rug clearly state it is made with Woolmark wool, a trademark for wool producers of Australia.
The two are very different. New Zealand wool is cruelty-free and pesticide-free, and you know what you're getting with their wool. When we told Pottery Barn of the error, the CSR said "The suppliers said it's New Zealand wool, and I believe they know what they're talking about." I told her that I go by the labels the producers put on products, but she wouldn't hear of it and made no offer to revise the product description.
The rug is nice, but for personal reasons we would not have bought it if we had known it was Australian wool.
